I've gotta say that one of the true blessings of living in the islands is the abundance of juicy, ripe mangos - local grown. Sure, you can get a box of "tropical" mangoes at Costco or maybe even some organic ones at the health food store, but those puppies were grown in South America someplace and have travelled a LONG way to get here. I don't think they were tree-ripened!
Local mangoes, though, are a delight, even if they aren't quite ready to eat, I'm much more sure they were picked - like - yesterday. Yum!
That and Avocados - local grown, dozens of varieties available all year long. Double Yum!
One of my favorite things is to make a fruit salad with a mango, some bananas, maybe an apple for crunch, and an avocado - it's a fruit too, right? And maybe a ripe, ruby red grapefruit for a little tart.
Ah, some of my favorite things!
